"When I was your age, I had to wait to read Harry Potter" - someone from my twitter feed.
Movie time: 146 minutes
Director: David Yates
Stars: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint
*WARNING MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS TO THE MOVIE*
The first installment of the last book from the Harry Potter series. I have to say that this movie is by far the best amongst all the three movies that David Yates directed (Order of the Phoenix, Half Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows Pt 1).
Being a huge fan of the book, I was looking forward to watching this movie for a long time. I was excited to see what David Yates could bring to life.
The latest installment of the Harry Potter series is definitely more on the darker side. At the beginning of the movie we see Severus Snape (Alan Rickman) flying through the sky landing at the Malfoy's home to attend a meeting with the Dark Lord (Ralph Fiennes). During the meeting, we could see Charity Burbage (Carolyn Pickles) floating in the air half dead.
Next we saw how Hermione (Emma Watson) erased the memories of her parents. In the book we all knew that she explained to Ron (Rupert Grint) and Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) how she uses the spell "Obliviate" to erase every single memory that her parents had of her.
I was also delighted to see the way the told the story of the 3 brothers. It was done perfectly. It was really smart of them to do it in animation. I think that the story of the 3 brothers is vital for the next part of the movie.
The ending of part one was perfectly picked as well. I really felt like it was the ending of the "honeymoon" period before the real action began.
FAVOURITE BITS:
- Harry trying to cheer Hermione up by goofyly dancing with her after Ron left the gang. You could feel that he deeply cares for her in a "BFF" sort of way. I had a friend told me that he thought that Harry and Hermione would in his words "get it on", but we all know that that didn't happen.
- Godric's Hallow. Bathilda Bagshot's (Hazel Douglas) scene. I was not sure how were they going to portray the scene where Nagini came out after consuming Bathilda but, David did it brilliantly.
- The return of Dobby. Instead of annoying me like he did in the last 4 movies, this time Dobby was really funny. He still reminds me of Gollum from the Lord of the Rings though.
I WISHED THAT:
- They included the secret radio shows that they had from the books instead of the static noises and occasional voices of someone reading the death list.
- They casted a different person for Mandungus Fletcher (Andy Linden). When I was reading the book, I have always imagined it to be someone more vile and uglier than Andy Linden.
I give this movie 4/5 stars.
We shall see you in July eh Potter? I can't wait.
