Toddler craft: Noise shakers

What do you do when you have to stay indoors because of a heatwave? You make noise shakers of course! All you need is 4 simple things you can find around the house. 

1. Toilet roll. Clean one of course. 
2. Beans. In my case I used split peas. 
3. Duct tape.
4. Scissors. 

Step 1 - Get your child to decorate the toilet roll. We used paint for ours. You can use marker pens or colour pencils. 

 

Step 2 - Use the scissors and cut the duct tape and cover one end of the toilet roll. Make sure you cover it properly. 

Step 3 - Fill the toilet roll 1/3 full and cover the other end of the toilet roll with more duct tape. 

 

Step 4 - Shake it shake shake shake it. Hours and hours of fun.

Apartment Pants

I made these cute cotton pants for the Lil' Tiger a few weeks ago and I must say that I am so proud of myself. I can only sew a handful of things and pants are one of them. M still wears the pj pants I sewn for him when we first met 6 years ago. He loves wearing it. He said it's the most comfortable thing I have ever made him. Awww... bless his little heart. 

I really want to learn how to sew clothes for the Lil' Tiger though. It's something on my Mummy to do list eversince I was pregnant. The only thing that is stopping me at the moment is cashflow. At the moment things are tight and learning how to sew clothes is somewhere in the middle of my list after paying the mortgage, bills and food. 

I know there are loads of tutorials out there that can and will teach you for free but I need someone to actually show me how it's done becuase sometimes following instructions from the internet and youtube is a little bit hard and overwhelming but if I actually see someone do it and help me point out my mistakes I learn faster. Not sure why.

If you have any suggestions and have any recommendation, I would really really appreciate it. So, in the mean time, I am going to learn how to sew the hard way. :) 

 

Granny Squares...

I am taking a week off work to recoup so this is what I have been doing. Crocheting granny squares in front of the TV. I am trying to finish my stash of yarn that I have and maybe make a blanket for the baby too.

Best friend's beanie...

   
Tiffy is going to Nepal with us for our Reception and she is going to try to visit Tibet as well. Since it's going to be cold where she is going, I made her a beanie. She wanted some stripes and pom poms as well. So she got what she wanted. :*) I am so happy that she liked it.  You can't really see pom poms but I promise you they were cute.

I am currently making one for myself as well but in Red with black stripes. :*)

Crochet vest...

I want to see if I can make that grey crochet vest that the model on the left is wearing. It looks doable. Now off to find the pattern!

Itchy Fingers 2

Another one finished on Sunday night. This one is called "The Bullet". I manage to finish it in just 3 hours in front of the TV while watching Will and Grace Marathon on Foxtel.

The Bullet reminds me of something out of Stargate SG1 *ehem* I use to watch that show religiously.

Anyway, M is not comfortable wearing it out so he said it would be his "home" beanie.

I found a pattern to crochet Walter's jumper so I am starting that as soon as I get more yarn from Spotlight. I will get Acrylics this time. It will keep him warm. Also on my to do list, an afgan for my soon to be born nephew. I have already ordered yarns from Bendigo. Miss Momo was kind enough to direct me to it. I have already ordered a few from there and trust me the BALLS are HUGE (200g).

I hope that this blog will not turn into a crochet blog but to those of you who knows me personally or have been reading my blog for a while you know that I go through phases but I hope this is a skill that I will not forget because there are so many beautiful things that I can make as gifts or for personal use. The best thing about crocheting is, you can do it infront of the TV or in the train.

Itchy Fingers...

I started this beanie on Thrusday night and finished it on Friday evening It was a little bit too small for me so I gave it to Jam. My nieghbour's daughter. She was so happy that she wore it straight away.

I got the pattern from Ravelry and it's called "My Blueberry Night Hat" from the movie "My Blueberry Night" with Norah Jones and Jude Law. I am not sure because I have not seen the movie yet but making this little beanie makes me want to go rent the DVD and watch it.

Took me 2 days to make it because I wanted to sleep early on Thursday night. This was a pretty simple beanie to make. I even made one for myself on Saturday evening while having coffee with the girls at The Imp in Victoria Park. We were having a stitch and bitch. I was doing the stitching and they were doing the bitching. LOL... well I did bitch as well.

Will post a photo of that beanie in tomorrow's post.

Addiction...

Ok. I have an addiction. I am currently addicted to Crochet. Pictured above, is my latest project. A Bobbled beanie for a friend's baby. I started this one at about 7pm this evening and so far I am already half way. I plan to learn as much stitches that I can and maybe hopefully one day make my own pattern. The wonders of Youtube. I learnt most of the stitches there.

M has already requested that I crochet him fingerless gloves. I cannot wait to hit the yarn store this Thursday and start looking for the prefect one for him. WOOT.

I am also coveting these Hamanaka Crochet hooks set. I saw it the other day at the Craft fair and I have wanted ever since. *sigh* Maybe one day.

My First Beanie...

I spend about $39.00 on yarn last Thursday and started crocheting when I come home. I finished this beanie the next day. I am so happy. It fits me perfectly. WOHOOO... I cant believe that I crocheted a beanie. Me... a beanie....

I started to crochet my fingerless gloves yesterday but ran out of yarn. I have to go to Spotlight to get more on Thursday. So now I am starting another beanie. I am on a roll. Youtube and Ravelry helped me so much. I never knew crocheting can be fun.
