Three years ago, a close friend of mine gave me a "Today, I am thankful for..." journal. On and off, I have been writing in the said journal for a good part of those three years. I am on my second journal now and I it has helped me tremendously. Everyday I try to write 3 things that I am thankful for for the day. As you can imagine, some days, easy. Some days, HARD. And on those hard days are when they count the most.
In 2014, I attempted to start a similar project but failed as I didn't have any direction as to where to go but now I have the tools and a little bit of knowledge.
WHY? WHY DO THIS?
For the most part of my adult life, I have had panic attacks from my anxieties and losing sleep because I worry about things day in day out. People usually say, relax, chill but those of you who have suffered anxiety, it is not something easily done. To relax and chill. To not worry about things that could have been. To stop your mind from going full throttle. Don't worry about things that have not even happen, they say. Easier said than done. At one point in time, I would throw up every morning due to waking up and facing the day of stress and uncertainty.
I have since, discovered breathing techniques, mindfulness and practising gratitude. I have manage to keep most of my anxieties at bay and in check. I have learnt that the more I am thankful for the more I am focused on the good. The more I shift my mind from the negative to the positive. This is why, this year, for 52 weeks, I will be practising gratitude. Every week, I will have a prompt, found HERE, and will try my best to complete each task.
Instead of complaining about my day, which I know there will be days like that, I will try to shift my mind to focus on the positive things. Instead of worrying about what might happen, I will focus on what is currently happening. I can't go wrong right? Of course I wont deny that there are days that I would like to skip and fast forward to a new week BUT, I am hoping with this change, I will stick to my guns.
