Snow Peas..

My garden is starting to bloom now. I have snow peas growing and I can't wait to just pluck it from the vines and just eat them like that. Mmmm...

Ordinary World...

Sorry for not posting regularly for the past 2 weeks. Things have been pretty hectic with the End of Financial Year accounts that I have to do. Although it's such a pain to do it, I have to say that I quite like doing it. It keeps me busy and now that I have at least 4 years of experience I now know what to look for and how to do it.

Last weekend, Tiff, Nana, M and I made a trip down to the Farm for a friend's 21st birthday and it was a themed party too. Everyone dressed up for the party!! It was really full on. I will post up photos once I get organised.

Other than that, things have been pretty ordinary. It's been raining here with really strong winds. It can get pretty scary sometimes. Walter has been sneaking in to our bedroom when he couldn't take the sound of the wind blowing things in our garden.

Postings will be back to normal once I get all the accounts out of the way but if you are following me on Twitter, you can always see updates there or on the right of my blog.

Tree Trunk Plots...

I have been looking around the Internet to see how I can make plots for my garden then I saw this via The Rag & Bone. I may do this at the front bit of our house where it borders my neighbour and the driveway. What do you think?

The Biggest of them all...

Ladies and Gentlemen... Weighing in at 20 Kilos...the biggest watermelon I have ever harvested...HUGE ASS MELON!!!!

Yep. I harvested this Melon on the 9th April 2009. This will go down in my books as the biggest watermelon I have ever seen. It was sweet and juicy. We poured a bottle of Vodka into it and had "watermelon martinis" HAHA... We ate the whole thing in the span of 2 days over the Easter Break.

Planning my Garden...

This year when I planted vegetables and fruit in my garden it was more of an experiment to see what works and what doesn't. The front bit of my garden was filled with sand and I did not treat it at all before planting my watermelon, pumpkin, beans and etc. I never knew that it would grow brilliantly.

So this time around, I will start planning my garden more carefully. I have never been interested in planting flowers and such unless that flower can be eaten. I want to have a produce garden where I can just go to my garden and pluck dinner straight from the vine or tree.

I stumbled upon a blog called DigginFood and I my mind is already racing! All the ideas. I want a garden that is also sustainable and doesn't need a lot of care. I want a garden that could withstand the hot Australian Summer.

I will be planting these again:-

• sugar snap peas
• Tomatoes
• strawberries
• silverbeets

I want to plant these:-

• Potatoes
• Cauliflower
• lettuce

I am going to have to sit down and sketch the plan I may have to build a planter box for the back so that Walter would not pee on or eat my plants.

Ode to my pumpkin...

My pumpkin plant only manage to churn out ONE pumpkin. I harvested it today and I am going to make soup with it. Yum yum.... I must find out how to make it fruit more regularly. It had loads of flowers but non of them manage to fruit.

Watermelon Harvest...

 

Happy Harvest...

We finally harvested the HUGE watermelon at the front of the house today. It was still not 100% ripe but it was still sweet!! Please excuse my messy hair and face. I just got back from the gym. Now if you would excuse me, it's time for another slice.

Harvest Food...

These tomatoes and chillies were harvested today. I manage to get at least 20 tomatoes and a bowl full of chillies!!! So what do we do with that many tomatoes? M's Nepalese Tomato Curry of course.

Harvest Tomato Curry.

1 big Onions (sliced)
10 small tomatoes (quartered)
6 small chillies (chopped)
oil
1 tsp cumin powder
1 tsp curry powder
1 tsp tumeric

1. Heat oil in pot.
2. Add spices and chillies and fry till aromatic.
3. Add onions and fry till onion is soft and translucent.
4. Add tomatoes, close lid and let tomato simmer till very soft. Stir from time to time.

Hope you like it. It's really simple and quick to make.

Fun Harvest

It was a very hot day today. I did not go to my garden until late evening. I manage to harvest a few things off my garden.

Chillies, Tomatoes and Strawberries. They are the only ones that are thriving through the hot summer sun.

I got the plastic horse and the dinosour from my Christmas cracker this year. I wanted to see if I could turn them into jewellery or maybe do a photoshoot with them.
