I had my very first pap smear test last Monday. Yes. My very first test. I know I have been very bad. I am learning how to take care of myself now. So this is one of the steps that I am taking. The nurse at the health center called me this morning to tell me everything is OK and looking good. There is nothing to worry about. *PHEW*
Next on my to do list is a Mammogram. I am going to do some research on it. Some say you only need to do the test when you are over the age of 45. Some say you need to do it as soon as you can. I don't know. Maybe I need to speak to my GP about his.

you don't need to get a mammogram lah. just breast self exam, unless you feel a lump or something. Also, i think in Aus, they won't give you one until you are over 40.

Yay for the good Pap. Yea, I didn't have a family history, but I did find a lump, so I did go before I was 40. The lump just turned out to be cartilage from my rib, so it was no biggie. If you have no reason to go, then just wait.

Good for you on the pap! About the mammogram... if you have family history of breast cancer or some reason to believe you might be at risk, then go for the test, but if you don't, then don't (to my way of thinking). See, mammograms are usually x-rays. That type of radiation is not exactly good for our tissues (or bones). I'm 32 and plan not to have a mammogram until 40+. Just my opinion, though.

Hi Feli,
Mamogram is not advisable for younger women (like us).. hehe unless you feel something and it's been advised by a specialist. there is a free mamogram clinic in east perth. i rang them before but as soon as i told my age they said they only accept over 45 women unless it's an urgent case.
hope this helps.
